Connecticut Girls Hockey League CGHL Connecticut's first and only youth hockey league devoted entirely to girls

Connecticut Girls Hockey League - Welcome!

Formed in 2005, the CGHL is Connecticut’s 1st (and only) youth hockey league devoted exclusively to girls!  Our league’s teams reside at CGHL member programs throughout Connecticut and near our neighboring states’ borders.

The CGHL’s dedicated volunteers bring girls of all ages great opportunities to try and to grow with hockey on all girls’ teams.  Whether a complete beginner or a seasoned veteran, chances are there's a local CGHL member Program close by that has a spot for you!  CGHL values development, fun, effort, teamwork and excellence.  We love hockey for the greater confidence, resilience, determination and strength it helps develop!

Since our beginning, we have been proud that so many of the local Programs that make up the CGHL spectacularly demonstrate values articulated by the Positive Coaching Alliance and USA Hockey’s American Development Model (“ADM”).

The CGHL is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a

Non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization.

Congratulations Amy Howland - U14 Coach of The Year!

Within the CGHL, we're extremely fortunate to have so many spectacular coaches who, day in and day out, demonstrate the values articulated so well by the Positive Coaching Alliance.   By all accounts,  and by the stellar nominations from players, parents and all who have had the pleasure to know her, Coach Amy stands out!  On behalf of the CGHL, we are proud to present Coach Amy Howland with the U14 "Coach of the Year Award".

"[Coach Amy] encourages players of all ages and experience levels to come together, work hard, and inspire each other. Her practices are focused on specific skills required in hockey and her style provides everyone with opportunities for growth at the their varied skill levels. During the training sessions Amy identifies each player's abilities and focuses on ways for them to grow and succeed."  ~Perry and Eileen Roos, Milford Ice Pavilion

"Coach Amy is a really good coach. She is 3 P’s: Positive, Passionate, and Planned." ~ Aynsley, U14 Player

"Coach Amy is a very caring person. She cares for every one of her players and their progress. She always motivates her players even when the team faces losses. She is a true leader. She sees potential in every player and does not turn them down. She teaches her players to be a team player and never give up no matter how tough the situation is.  She is always positive and always cares for others. She is inspirational to our girls to be good and to go after their goals! My daughter and I are very thankful to have her as a coach."  ~ Katerina Miller, parent of U14 Player

"Coach Amy's hockey story is inspirational. From learning how to play hockey at SCYH, to captain of her Boston College hockey team. Coach Amy finds herself developing the next generation of skaters at Southern. Amy dedicates all of her expertise to the girls and the sport. Each player understands they are special to coach Amy and the team's growth is testimony to her commitment ...."   ~ Jim Petrino President SCYH

Congratulations Marc Labrie - U12 Coach of The Year!

Coach Marc is one of two coaches to be recognized by the CGHL for the tremendous positive impact he made for the players and parents on his U12 team.

"I've been around hockey for many years as my son and daughter have played travel hockey  for numerous seasons.   This is my daughter's first experience on an all girls team and I can't believe the progress she has made this season with Marc and his staff's guidance. She is coming off this season with by far her best performance ever since she has been playing hockey!"  ~ Marci Moskal, Parent of U12 Player

"[Coach Marc] has made a tremendous impact on my daughter Gabriella, as well as the team, and parents. I have never come across someone so committed, honest, and caring in the  coaching world in our 6 years involved with hockey with our 3 kids. He takes the time to motivate, fully demonstrate, and make sure that they are having fun as a top priority."  ~ Janet Carbo, Parent of U12 Player

"Having had children in travel hockey for the past 5 years, we have many amazing coaches, but NONE as dedicated to the mission and experience than Coach Marc. His passion for encouraging girls hockey is nothing short of contagious .... If only there were more coaches like Coach Marc!"   ~ Meredith Crowther, Parent of U12 Player

CGHL Proud to Recognize Outstanding Coaches, Leaders ...

Sunday, 12-FEB-2017

For Immediate Release -- Guilford, CT  -- Last month, CGHL unveiled the first of what will be a series of Player Awards (the CGHL Scholar Athlete Award).  Next season, CGHL plans to offer additional player awards to recognize players who spectacularly demonstrate CGHL values (more details to follow soon).    This season, CGHL is pleased to announce three (3) new CHGL awards to recognize some of our outstanding leaders, volunteers and coaches.

  • LaChance Leadership Award
  • Cassella Community Builder Award
  • Coach of the Year Awards

Asked about the new awards program, CGHL President, Kevin Sandor said,

"Too often, deserving folks don't get recognized for outstanding contributions they make to our league for our girls.  Many programs within our CGHL have more than a few exemplary volunteers who regularly make spectacular contributions to their programs and/or the CGHL.

The CGHL would like to recognize 'the best of the best', so to speak, and encourage all programs to also recognize their outstanding volunteers (if they do not already).

These awards are just a small token of how grateful and proud we are of our outstanding volunteers' accomplishments ... and a chance to celebrate and recognize how much we value their contributions to our league and what they do for girls' hockey year after year."
